Meet Nani!
My name is Rogelio, otherwise known as Nani!
I currently work in a nursing home by day and at night I am a drag super star!!! I am a mother of two beautiful kitties named Nani and Kenai! They’re my world!!
What inspired me to be a drag queen was an old friend of mine. We used to watch Rupaul‘s Drag Race like it was a sport. We would always have make up Kiki nights and I would post them on Instagram which then led to me getting my first booking.
It was my first gig when I knew that it was my passion.
When Gaga said she “lives for the applause,” I truly felt that. There are no words to describe the feeling of being on that stage and hearing people scream for you. My biggest inspiration is Adele. She’s so genuine and authentic.
Fun fact: Nani created this dress… from SCRATCH!
If you could change one thing in the world to make it a better place, what would it be and why?
I just think this world needs kinder people. You never know what is going on in someone’s life or at home. That little bit of kindness could save someone’s life.
What do you do when you’re not twirling the house down for the children?
Right now it’s honestly school. I just changed my major from nursing to fashion studies at Kendall College and it has been the best decision of my life. This winter semester was my first semester at Kendall and I’ve already made a garment that I am super proud of and walked my first ever models runway! You can see it in the pictures in this blog!
What makes your gigs amazing?
Getting to meet everyone! I’ve met some amazing people and I feel like it’s just getting started. Also seeing the look on peoples’ faces when performing is so validating and makes me feel like a superstar.
Be who you want to be and not what others want you to be. As long as you love what you are doing then that’s all that matters!
