Portrait Session Experience
Currently based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I’ve had the absolute honor and privilege of spending my 30’s photographing thousands of folx ✌🏼in my downtown Grand Rapids studio, and while co-hosting retreats around the world. Over the last decade I’ve learned how to hold space for others, in the nerves, insecurities and exhilaration that often “side-car” the countdown to baring your soul (and sometimes body) to the camera, while realizing my super-power to connect and guide subjects through the self-permission to unapologetically take-up space, and be seen.
I am currently booking fine art portrait sessions in studio as well as destination locations around the world until March 2025 when I’ll be taking a year sabbatical away from offering services. Elise takes an intentional, art therapy approach to the modern portrait and boudoir photo-shoot, a collaboration of self-exploration to create self-reflective visual art, to reflect on the experience of feeling seen, and to connect to your body and inner voice to remind her that it’s ok to take up space. Using the camera as a tool for self-exploration and body confidence, you’ll be guided through pre-shoot self-reflection exercises leading up to a professionally produced artistic portrait session to document and celebration the version of yourself you hope to meet the moment you see your images for the first time.

I built this studio after personally experiencing the irrevocable ripple that a creative self-portrait practice can have on a persons body-acceptance journey, and I absolutely understand that it’s truly a commitment to juggle busy schedules and prioritize self-care, not to mention, to justify and budget for an investment in YOU. I whole heartedly believe in this work and the power of the photographic process to stimulate self-reflection and it’s always been MOST important to me that this form of alternative wellness is accessible. So, in preparation for my 2025 sabbatical, I've got some alternatives in mind, just for you!
Over the past decade, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working alongside some wildly talented wing-women. For shits and giggles, we’ll call them my protégés. (Because it sounds ironically pretentious AND I can’t not imagine saying it while lounging in a Mod Bettie robe while sipping martini’s and thinking, “I have arrived,” between slow drags.) I’ve taught them everything I know about mastering the fine art of capturing intentional portraits. It's not just about clicking a button; it's about expertly maneuvering through poses, manipulating light, and being a FUN host! Together, they've aced a ton of Mod Bettie contracted portrait sessions, as I’ve stood back, proudly watching them grow and cheering them on along the way.

A: Inquire above! We will hop and a phone consultation to chat all things photoshoot! We will likely get a date on the calendar for your shoot at the time of our phone consultation as well. Our calendar fills up quickly, so we highly recommend that you don’t wait to schedule with us (even if it’s months in advance). If you do wait to schedule, we’ll be in touch with periodic reminders that contain the link to book your session.

A: We understand that sometimes life happens, and it’s important to us that you’re able to feel your best self on the day of your session. That said, we ask that you give us 2-3 weeks notice in the event of a reschedule, one time only. We are able to make an exception to the 2-3 weeks notice in the event of illness, emergency, or an act of God herself.
For our full policies on rescheduling/cancellations, you can always refer back to the contract that you will receive after the purchase of your session. Please note that we reserve the right to deny reschedule requests within the bounds of this contract.

A: We shoot Thursdays & Fridays and offer appointments at 10:00am and 1pm. If your heart is set on shooting with us on a Saturday, there is the option to add this onto your session for an additional fee.

A: Not unless you want them to be! We respect the fact that it takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there and for some folks just being behind the camera is intimidating enough. This is a very intimate experience and we will do whatever it takes to make you feel confident and comfortable. Our hope is that you will receive your retouched images and feel so empowered and sexy that you can't help but show everyone you know!

It sure does! We will schedule a wardrobe consultation 4-6 weeks before your session to nail down what you will wear!

A: Please feel welcome to bring a friend as a cheerleader! Or, maybe you mean you want to shoot with a friend? In that case, we’ll chat about how that works during your phone consultation!

A: For sanitary reasons, we do not carry lingerie in our studio wardrobe. But if you plan to shoot boudoir, we’ve still got you covered! Our sister business Naughty Bettie carries inclusive sizes and styles of lingerie for all bodies.
*Bonus: Your session comes with a credit to spend in the boutique!

A: After choosing your favorites, you can expect your final, retouched digital gallery 2-3 weeks after your session! YAY!
If you ordered an album, prints, or a magazine, you can expect physical products to be ready 4-6 weeks after you’ve approved the layout unless otherwise noted.
Please note that delivery of your final gallery will be held if you have an unpaid balance on any additional images you might purchase.
